As anyone who is on the Celtic Woman mailing list will already know from today's announcement, the new Chloe/CelticWoman DVD will be taped July 30th at Powerscourt Gardens, in Ireland.

For Chloe, this will be a real homecoming, as of course she filmed a good deal of material at Powerscourt for her solo DVD, still the greatest DVD that Celtic Woman has ever produced, Walking in the Air. In fact, that eponymous song was specifically filmed at Powerscourt.

This is an excellent decision on CW's part. I have always (and repeatedly, and tirelessly) maintained that the new DVD must be filmed outdoors, not locked inside the Helix or some other indoor venue. Both A New Journey DVD and the Walking in the Air DVD show just how much more beautiful and exciting and magical outdoor filmings are from indoor shoots.

It's always wonderful that the taping will be in Ireland, not in America, because ultimately, this is Celtic Woman. The only American venue that would have been suitable would have been Ellis Island, but I imagine that it was impossible to get permission to film there outside, and a filming inside the customs hall would have visually inadequate. Locations like Red Rocks would have been meaningless, thematically, so to have the DVD filmed in Ireland, at such a gorgeous location, is definitely the right choice.

The only possible superior venue would have been the grounds of some of Ireland's great ruined castles, like Dunluce, but it would probably have been extremely difficult logistically to get camera crews and equipment to such relatively remote locations. But Powerscourt has a filming history (viz., Chloe's DVD), so it's familiar ground.

At any rate, once again, this is fascinating news, because it shows that Celtic Woman is following in Chloe's footsteps. I'm certain that the DVD will be gorgeous as a result of this location choice.

I predict that this DVD will be a banner makers heaven I hope they include lots of shots of the gardens. I can't wait!

Wow! That's awesome news! Celeste you are so right; they needed to film it in Ireland. I know some were hoping for a US concert so they could attend, but think about it. They never do a "typical" concert on a stage recording. Just one of the many things that makes Celtic Woman so unique. The gardens are beautiful and perfect for a magical CW experience! I'm excited to see what Brian and Scott do for banners too.
