Ok, since Celeste created a nice poll about which of Chloe's classical songs is your favorite, I will turn the tables and ask the question: "Which classical piece would you most like Chloe to sing?"

I'm pretty sure this question has been asked here in the Forum a long time ago, but it bears asking again since Chloe's new CD hopefully will be coming out in the next 12 months.

My own top choice would be:

Ave Maria (the SCHUBERT version)

Honorable mentions:

* Amazing Grace (if this can be counted as a classical piece instead of as a straight spiritual)
* with added lyrics (almost any lyrics LOL)... Beethoven's "For Elise" or Pachelbel's "Canon"

What a marvellous topic, Scott. I enthusiastically agree about all three of your choices.

At first, one thinks, "Hey, wait a minute -- neither Beethoven's nor Pachelbel's piece is vocal," but then one realizes that many of Chloe's classical songs are not inherently vocal, but are vocal arrangements of classical instrumental compositions.

With that in mind, I'd suggest the song "Anytime, Anywhere," which is set to the music of the great Adagio by Tomaso Albinoni. It can be heard on Sarah Brightman's best album, Eden.

Here are a few more thoughts:

-"Voices of Spring" (Frühlingsstimmen) by Johann Strauss Jr.

-"O mio babbino caro," from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-pPe1ExGVE&fmt=18)

-"Vilja-Lied," from Lehár's Die lustige Witwe (aka The Merry Widow)
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEEzmDKjloo&fmt=18 - the melody begins at 0:55)

-"Un bel di," from Puccini's Madama Butterfly
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlCFXAzV80A&fmt=18)

-"Quando m'en vo," from Puccini's La Bohème
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH-iok5UjF4&fmt=18 - fast forward to 4:40)

And as a duet, I'd love to hear Chloe perform the famous "Flower Duet" from the Delibes opera, Lakmé.

Wow, a vocal arrangement for "Voices Of Spring" would be interesting... I like all the Strauss waltzes but if she were to sing one, my first choice would have been "The Emperor's Waltz."

I have heard some truly beautiful versions of "The Flower Duet" and I agree it would make a great song for Chloe to do, if she could find someone to sing it with. :)

Oh, goodness, I just remembered one that Chloe should definitely sing: "Once Upon a Dream," as heard in the Disney film Sleeping Beauty, which is a song based on the Valse (Waltz) from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty ballet.

I even remember that in the "extras" material on the DVD, the performers who were cast for the singing and speaking roles in that movie were specifically selected for their ability to song with youthfulness in their voices. Talk about a song that's tailor-made for Chloe! And the source is 100% classical.

Beethoven's nor Pachelbel's piece is vocal," ( CELESTE)

Yes, we used to sing Pachelbel's Canon in choir...it does have words that have been added to it.
I guess we could "google them" but I am way past my bed time and have to teach in the A M..
This is a beautiful forum devoted to the Darling, Miss Chloe Agnew..

I would like to say even tho' Hayley has recorded more albums, many of her song choices are mediocre, not memorable, etc...whereas Chloe's choices whether she or her management came up with them are perfection itself.

And Celete's comments on the material changes with the loss or Meav and Orla are right on target...that was what made the group so special and a cut above everything other show business act were the IRISH songs, the polishing of the songs by The Celtic Songbird Meave and the Irish Goddess, Orla Fallon...still miss them...still enjoy their DVDs and CD's...looking forward to ORLAS's new album.

Another Classical-Crossover group (All Angels) has done a vocalization of "Canon", although they named in "Salve Regina".

Sarah Brightman also does a song called "Figlio Perduto," which is a vocalization of the second movement of Beethoven's Seventh:

It would be interesting to hear Chloe perform this, particularly since I think David Downes would do a better arrangement, eschewing the piano (synthesizer) and unnecessary drums, and leaving Beethoven's orchestral part intact.

Celeste. . . .
David has a site, but I don't know how often it is checked by him or his management. I hope you have enough time to make a link , web page, or an e mail to HIM, David Downes with your beautiful suggestions for classical selections.
